Wine Italy
The Consortium Wines
In this area, the splendid Valtenesi hills represent the hub of production; the quality of DOC wines produced since 1967 has improved so much that in 1996, it was awarded the long-coveted and well earned honour of adding “classico” to its denomination of Garda.
In the wine world, the word “classico” carries great importance, firstly of tradition because the title is only granted to areas with the oldest winemaking heritage. Secondly, of quality, for by granting the term “classico” to a wine the stage is set, and all producers are fully aware that their soil and wineries are obliged to produce wines of high regard. Winemakers know that only respect and carefully tended vineyards can deliver quality grapes, and the marvellous wines they produce are a direct result of their passion for the land – both in terms of working hard in the vineyards and protecting the environment.
