The climate of Garda is notably mitigated by the presence of the lake. Due to the mild winters even olive trees survive, making this the most northern point of olive production in the world. In summer the days are not as hot, nor the nights as cold as they are in a continental climate, therefore fluctuation in temperature is not particularly marked.

The vines grow in an environment which favours the ripening of the grape, but the mild summer nights create difficulties as they also provide a hospitable environment for pathogenic fungi which attack the grapes. It takes a skilful winemaker to keep the grapes perfectly healthy.
